3D Laser Scanning

Looking for an exact digital representation of your product? Need to use some imagination and do some editing before round two? 3D laser scanning uses precision lasers to measure intricate surface details and reproduce the exact size and shape (and even the color) of an object into a 3D computer program. This process is ideal for free-form shapes, contoured surfaces, and complex geometries, and, through the data collected, also allows you to take the digitized model, find things you want to change, and start getting creative.

Non-contact inspection creates a “point cloud” of data—hundreds of thousands of points discovered by the moving laser over each surface of the object—exact down to .002 of an inch. That data can subsequently be manipulated in a CAD (computer-aided design) model. We can also run a CAD deviation analysis (also known as color deviation analysis), letting you know how far the actual product deviates from the original design (a starting point for correcting errors or a new reverse engineering project).

With our optical scanning services, we can get your product into an editable design format, allowing you to get the full details about your project in an easily-accessible format and giving you the freedom to adjust design elements before manufacturing, reducing demands on your engineering group.
