As the third generation of dimensional inspectors in his family, you might say that Sven Bley was “made to measure.” Sven grew up learning the business, and he has a natural gift for detailed observation. By the age of seven he could tell his parents the make and model of every car on the road. It’s no wonder Sven went on to earn a degree in Machine Tool Technology and became the founder and managing director of Made To Measure (M2M). But Sven Bley’s story is about more than his heritage; it is also about his vision. Since starting the business in 2003, M2M has established a reputation for being the Midwest’s leading dimensional inspection service company by combining the newest techniques and equipment with the highest trained and most dedicated staff.
“We’re all fanatical about precision and accuracy here at M2M, and nothing is more beautiful than a perfectly engineered automobile or motorcycle. If I could, I’d bring in a Formula 1 racing car just to measure its curves and tolerances. I appreciate art too, but if it’s not precise, it kind of drives me crazy. We recently measured some beautifully handcrafted martini glasses and they were all different sizes. We had to measure hundreds of glasses to come up with a standard average. The client was very happy. We were exhausted. We kept a set of the glasses and experimented with martinis to celebrate.”
When he’s not busy building M2M, Sven enjoys racing motorcycles. “It’s one thing to look at a beautiful machine and admire its perfection, but making it perform, pushing it to its limits….that’s the marriage of form and function that I live for.”
